Uihlein Foundation Merit Scholarship Program

FAQs   |   Checklist for Application   |   Selection Criteria

Northwood School's long relationship with the Henry Uihlein II and Mildred A. Uihlein Foundation has resulted in the successful stewardship of the Uihlein Scholarship Fund. Each academic merit scholarship is valued at $10,000, and is renewable each year based on student performance.

Northwood School is a co-educational independent boarding and day school serving students in grades nine through twelve. Since its founding in 1905 Northwood School has offered outstanding scholastic and athletic programs in the Adirondacks. The school's academic program emphasizes rigorous preparation for top colleges in a supportive, structured, small-class setting.

Interested applicants should contact Director of Admissions and Financial Aid, Brad D'Arco, or call the Admissions Office at 518-523-3382.

Q: Who is eligible for the Uihlein Scholarship?

A: Any day student whose current grade level is eighth through tenth; those entering Northwood in ninth through eleventh for the 2017/2018 school year.

Q: How many scholarships will be awarded?

A: We will award two scholarships for the 2017/2018 school year.

Q: What is the amount of each scholarship?

A: $10,000

Q: Is this a one-time award?

A: No. Assuming that a Uihlein Scholar continues to thrive in the Northwood environment by fulfilling academic and extra-curricular expectations, a Uihlein Scholarship will be extended each year through graduation.

Q: Is re-application required each year for a student who receives a Uihlein Scholarship?

A: No

Q: Can Uihlein Scholarship recipients also receive need-based financial assistance?

A: Yes, acceptance of a Uihlein Scholarship does not eliminate a family from consideration for need-based assistance. Because a Uihlein Scholarship is based on merit, the amount of a Uihlein Scholarship will not change in the event that need-based financial assistance is also awarded.

Q: How do I apply for the scholarship?

A: Please see the checklist below for instructions or call 523-3382 with your questions. You can also schedule a campus visit at that time.

Q: How will scholarship recipients be selected?

A: The selection committee will review all applicants and make selections based upon the attached criteria.

Q: When is the scholarship application deadline?

A: For the two 2017/2018 scholarships, applications submitted by January 31, 2017 will be considered for the 2017/2018 school year.

Q: When will applicants be notified of selection?

A: The selection committee's decision will be communicated by March 10, 2017. Those selected as Uihlein Scholars will have until April 10, 2017 to make a decision on Northwood School enrollment.
